Finding Housing, Gaining Insight–Karl’s Story

Before moving into an apartment with Impact, Karl spent almost two years at a homeless shelter. Like many members of the working poor, Karl couldn’t afford the high cost of housing despite a degree in urban planning and a job in real estate.
With his housing needs met, Karl was able to give back to the community, working at the shelter where he once lived. With a wealth of knowledge and life experience, he was able to support other members of his community and help them navigate the system.
Karl and his clinician, Tiana, have been working together for a year to understand and manage his lifelong depression. Long daily walks on the lakefront, reading, and meditation all reinforce the therapy he’s receiving.
This is an ongoing process and we just started. Glad I’m in it with Tiana.
