Q&A with new board member Pedro de Jesus

In June 2021, Impact Behavioral Health Partners welcomed Pedro de Jesus as its newest Board member. Pedro and Development Director Laurie Flanagan recently sat down and talked about his work, his passions, and his interest in becoming an Impact Board member.

What inspired you to become involved with the Impact Board of Directors?

As I had more exposure to the Board of the non-profit that I work for, I understood the value of joining a Board myself, so I could learn more about sustainability and governance. Through my conversations with [Impact Executive Director] Patti, I became inspired by Impact’s mission, and the totality of what the organization does for people with mental illness.

Tell us more about your background.

I was born and raised in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, and come from a family of social workers. I’m the product of the Chicago Public Schools system and had the privilege of going to Walter Payton College Prep before attending Purdue University and Roosevelt University. I graduated with a BS in mathematics and psychology.

I found myself at Ravinia Festival soon after graduating and over my 11 years at the non-profit music festival. I’ve held management roles in public relations, social media, marketing and client services. Most recently, I’ve been focused on data analytics and research efforts. I’m also helping to lead our digital marketing strategy and I am the program manager for Ravinia’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

What are your passions outside of work?

I’m a serial hobbyist, but have always been a tech junkie. In addition to building custom PCs, I enjoy experimenting in crypto currency mining and coding challenges. I enjoy games of probability and chance, so I find myself engaged in numerous fantasy sports leagues. I’m also a big fan of board games which I play with friends, particularly during my annual trip to Gen Con in Indianapolis. Over the last several years, I have picked up Olympic archery as a casual hobby when I can find time and find it very relaxing!
